Stuck in Delverium Progression: Follow Lore to the First Boss

If you are missing the route to the first main progression boss, follow the lore obtained from Runtime Error and the purple question mark on your map. The developer's October 1 explanation points to an entrance in the purplish central area, then three levels down. Defeating that boss opens the stairs on the far side and access to a Journey Shrine leading to the swamp.

Follow the first progression clue

  1. If you are still seeking the first main progression boss, obtain lore from Runtime Error and look for the purple question mark it reveals on the map.
  2. Find the entrance in the purplish area near the centre of the map, following your marker.
  3. Descend three levels, as described in the developer's October 1 answer.
  4. Defeat the first progression boss, then check the stairs on the other side.
  5. Look for the newly accessible Journey Shrine route to the swamp.

If you have an entrance but cannot continue

The boss unlock is the key distinction: exploration finds the route, but defeating the boss opens the onward stairs. If the stairs are still locked, check whether you have completed that encounter rather than assuming another random tunnel will bypass it.

If you have already passed the first boss

The developer describes later progression using the same general clue loop: relevant enemies provide lore, and lore points you toward map question marks. Check the clues you have obtained for the stage you are actually on. The specific central entrance and three-level instruction here apply to the first progression route, not every boss.

Journey Shrines and returning to your route

The source discussion also covers overworld shrines and a nearby starting shrine. Use the shrines you have found to return to the area you are exploring; their presence alone is not proof that the next boss has been defeated.

If you still cannot find the route, include your reached biomes, the lore you have, map marker and locked-stair location when asking for help. Those details distinguish a missing clue from a blocked next step without requiring you to blindly search the whole map again.
